In the liberal secular humanist worldview, marriage is an institution which was devised by society at some time in the past to help to maintain the social order, but which many today see as being outdated and obsolete. Others might see it as being beneficial to society in some ways, but to be greatly in need of reform. Others can take it or leave it, and see it perhaps as no more than a quaint tradition.
